FAQs

How do I use these cards?

Our cards can be used as standard playing cards if you wish. There is a list of playing cards games on our How To Play tab.

However, we have come up with some games that encompass the sign language, and could easily fit into classroom learning.

SIGN MAN SAYS: A spinoff of the renowned Simon Says game but bringing the interactive part of our cards in to play. One person is designated Sign Man, the others are the players. Standing in front of the group, Sign Man signs players what they must do (these signs are the ones on our cards such as sit down, stand up, eat etc). However, the players must only obey commands that begin with the words “Simon Says.” If Simon says, “Simon says” and then signs ‘sit down’ then players must sit down.

CHARADES: Charades is a game of pantomimes: you have to "act out" a sign, while the other members of your team try to guess what the sign is. The objective is for your team to guess the sign as quickly as possible.

How will this help me?

These cards are a way to learn 13 basic words or commands in sign language that you could use to communicate with your friends, your parents, children, students or teachers, all while raising awareness of New Zealand’s most under-recognised national language.

I have contacted you through your website but you haven’t got back to me, why is that?
