How to play

Go Fish

Players first see if they have any pairs/double-ups, and put them down to the side. The first player asks the opponent for a card while doing the associated action (specific sign language action eg. hello, please). For example, “John, do you have … (does sign)?”.

The player either gives them the card or responds with “Go Fish” if they don’t have the matching card, in which the first player must pick up a new card.

This continues back and forth until there are no new cards left to pick up. The player with the most pairs in their pile wins!

Flash Cards

Rather than a game, this is more of a way to practice learning the signs on our cards.

One person holds up a card in front of someone else, who performs the action on the card. If the person holding the card guesses the action, the card is then placed to the side.

Sign Man Says

One person is selected to be ‘Sign Man’, everyone else is a player. Standing in front of the group, Sign Man must tell the players what to do. However, the players must only obey the commands that begin with the words “Sign Man Says”. For example: “Sign Man says Please”, the players must then do the sign for, please.

But if Sign Man says “Please” without saying “Sign Man Says”, players must not do the sign for, please. Those that do the sign for please are out. The winner is the last person standing!

Snap

Players take it in turns to turn over the top card of their pile. This card is put face up onto another pile next to the first pile. If the cards both have the same sign, one of the players may shout "snap". The first player to do the sign language sign when two cards of the same sign are showing wins the round. The loser has to put all of the cards that are face-up onto the bottom of their face-down pile. The winner is the first person to get rid of all their cards.
